This exerpt was taken from the designers facebook page Steve O'Neil: When Steve Irwin died, my hero was gone. I was very depressed for several weeks but then I decided that Steve would not have wanted any of us to be sad—he would have wanted us to fight even harder to make a difference for wildlife and habitat conservation. I decided to do something in Steve’s memory and I wanted it to help wildlife, I wanted it to somehow raise money for Wildlife Warriors Worldwide. So I designed a special memorial coin I called the Crikey! Fundraiser Geocoin. The first run of Crikey coins were produced by Coins and Pins and went on sale in the spring of 2007 and were a big hit and sold out on September 04, 2008 (strange that it was on that date…). Through the sale of the coins I raised several thousand dollars that we donated to Wildlife Warriors. I did not profit from the sale of the coins and neither did the producer of the coin Coins and Pins--we both did it for Steve and for wildlife conservation—for Steve Irwin’s passion.
